Poor decisions

Sometimes when you work on a project you just can’t stop even though it’s not good for you to keep going. One of my hobbies, apart from writing, is knitting. I’ve been working on a knitting project lately that has kept me so engrossed it’s been difficult to stop once I get started. Unfortunately, this has led to a slight complication as Camp NaNoWriMo draws nearer.

Yes, I hurt myself knitting. No, it’s not broken, but it hurts a lot. This has made it difficult to do anything – from knitting, to writing, to holding heavy objects in my right hand. And all because I was too careless to wear compression gloves while knitting for long periods of time.

As pathetic as this story is, there’s a lesson for all of us to learn here. While it may be enticing to work for long stretches of time on our passion projects, it’s important to take enough time to make sure you’re taking care of yourself. Without a functioning body and mind, doing anything is extremely difficult and makes work painful when is supposed to be fun.

Also, if you’re anything like me, trying to compose documents like this using the speech-to-text function is really difficult and messes with your mind quite a bit. I tend to compose my thoughts very slowly, using the motion of quoting to help my thoughts percolate. However, it’s very convenient when your wrists hurt from typing, and it’s much faster. I’m writing this on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 using the Google Text-to-Speech software and it’s remarkably accurate.
